What families say about working with Amberkith

We attended the Listening & Speaking Workshop as a family of four. Honestly, I was not sure what to expect — I thought it might feel awkward to practise speaking with each other in front of someone else. It did feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but the facilitator was patient and the prompts helped. We have used the guide at home a few times since, and it does help to have something concrete to refer back to when a conversation gets tense.

The Records & Planning Session was very practical. My father and I had been putting off sorting through his paperwork for over a year — it kept feeling like too large a task to start. The session gave us a structure and someone to sit with us while we did it. The folder we built is still on his desk. I appreciated that when we had questions about what to do with certain documents, they pointed us to a solicitor rather than answering things they were not qualified to answer.

We did the same, and I think the multi-session format was the right choice for us — the communication habits built over several weeks rather than in one session, which made them feel more natural by the end. The follow-up check-ins were shorter than I expected, but they served their purpose.

We came with a lot of questions that they were not able to answer — questions about what we should do with our parents' property, and some financial matters. They were clear about that upfront, which I appreciated even if it was a little disappointing. What they were able to help with — how to structure conversations and how to organise the documents we did have — was useful and done carefully.

I attended the Listening & Speaking Workshop alone, to see if it would be worth bringing the rest of the family. It was. I went back two months later with my siblings and our mother. The facilitator remembered the context from my initial attendance, which made the family session feel more personal. The take-home guide has become something of a reference point for us when conversations get difficult.

The Records & Planning Session helped us identify quite a few gaps — documents we realised we did not have and had not thought to look for. The checklist was more thorough than I expected. Having a labelled folder to bring to our solicitor later made that appointment go much faster. I would have liked a slightly longer session to work through everything at once rather than leaving some items for us to do at home.
